Mango Chiren is a comic series that follows the adventures of a group of kids as they enjoy the unique experiences of Caribbean life. In the comic we follow the adventures of Sugar, Julie, Long, Doux Doux, Ice Cream, Curry and Donkey Stones as they play football, cricket, marbles, karate, super heroes and any other game that they can imagine! Even though the story is based in Trinidad and Tobago and emphasises elements specific to growing up in the twin-island Republic, many of the stories and situations in the comic are universal to children all over the world. The characters in Mango Chiren use authentic Trinidadian slang, so for readers not familiar with the dialect it may take a few episodes to get accustomed to the nuances of ‘Trini talk’.
The characters gave themselves nicknames based on a type of mango indigenous to T&T. In the comic, the group tries to convince Curry that said mango is actually a cooked dish and not something that grows on a tree, but he is undeterred and continues to use the moniker to this day.
